EPE Hosts River Voices Program

East Portsmouth Elementary students hosted a program presented by W. Meriwether, O. Penn and L. Daehler--all PHS students-- on the historic 1937 Flood. Many activities and events have been planned throughout the schools and the community to mark the 75 anniversary of this natural disaster that devastated Portsmouth.

Congratulations to the following students who placed in the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Ohio University Southern Campus Essay Contest:First place: G. EmnettSecond place: C. LoweryThird place: R. JohnsonThese three students won all three places in the sixth - eighth grade contest category!!As stated on the contest website (http://www.southern.ohiou.edu/mlk/ ), they have won the following prizes and honors: First Place - $100.00 Second Place - $50.00 Third Place - $25.00 Each of their essays will be published in the Ironton Tribune newspaper. Along with the cash award students will receive a certificate of achievement, an OU t-shirt, and be invited to attend the Annual Ohio University Southern Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Celebration on January 16, 2012 , where students will be publicly recognized for their achievement.Great job!
